Hat-trick delivered by Roman Bhujel, New Star Club of Khopbadi has successfully clinched a place in the championship match of the inaugural Laxmi Dhap district-level football tournament held in the locality.
In the first semifinal showdown that unfolded on Wednesday at Laxmidhap Maidan, New Star inched closer to the tournament title with a resounding 4-1 triumph over Haldibari's Jalthal FC.
The action commenced with Sonahang Limbu of New Star scoring within the opening five minutes of the game, propelling his team into an early lead. Roman Bhujel doubled this advantage with a goal in the 20th minute. In the 57th minute, Roman secured his second personal goal of the match, tallying an impressive three in total. Jalthal's captain, Sandesh Bhujel, capitalized on a mistake by New Star's captain, Sanam Rai, finding the net in the 28th minute.
In a fiercely competitive game, Roman once again dazzled the crowd with his third goal in the 65th minute, underscoring a considerable lead. Roman was rightfully awarded the title of Man of the Match, and he was presented with a cash prize of NPR 2,500 and a trophy by the day's chief guest, Khagendra Ingnam, the President of Arjundhara 11 Ward.
With Roman's hat-trick included, a total of four goals have been scored across two matches, while Devendra Tamang of Shanishre FC, a formidable title contender, has notched up four goals in a single game. The upcoming match on Thursday will feature Shanishchare competing against Shivasatakshi Sporting Club in the last semifinal encounter.
The ultimate winner of the championship match slated for October 4 will receive a trophy along with a cash prize of NPR 51,000, while the runner-up will secure a purse of NPR 31,000. Furthermore, the financial coordinator, Tekraj Teeling, revealed that the competition's standout player will be awarded a cash prize of NPR 5,000. Additionally, the best goalkeeper, midfielder, defender, forward, and top scorer of the tournament will each receive NPR 3,000.
