News Nepal Skipper Anjila: We Are Here To Become Champions

Newly appointed Nepal National Women's Team skipper Anjila Tumbapo Subba has stated that the team is aiming to win the SAFF Women's Championship starting tomorrow in Kathmandu.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the tournament at Soaltee Hotel in Kathmandu, Anjila said that the team is well-equipped to fight for the title and will go for it.

"I'm happy to be leading the nation. We're here to become champions and will do everything possible to win the title", said Subba, the newly appointed captain in the absence of regular captain Renuka Nagarkoti.

Nepal will take on Bhutan in the opening encounter of the regional tournament at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Kathmandu will be hosting the tournament for the first time. The tournament's last edition was held in Biratnagar, where Nepal came second to a strong Indian side.

Nepal want to leave the past aside and go on a triumphant run. "We'll try to show our game on the field rather than sit here and talk," said Anjila making a statement and expressing the team's will to fight for regional supremacy. "I don't know what will happen in the future, but the team believes in our squad and we are here to win."

Coming to the sixth edition of the tournament, India have won every edition of the tournament so far. Nepal have come close several times, with four final defeats and a semifinal exit. Nepal will be looking go one step further and get hands on the trophy, this time with the home fans roaring in its capital.
