The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s Member Associations as well as the football leagues in Asia continue to do their part through various initiatives to help communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF), the Guam Football Association (GFA), the J.LEAGUE and the Wuhan Football Association have helped by giving donations, promoting public awareness messages and opening training centres to house medical teams.
During the peak of the COVID-19 crisis in Wuhan, the Wuhan FA opened the players apartment as a station for supporting the medical team while also providing them with food and rooms for up to three months.
All Wuhan FA staff members volunteered to do their part, and on March 8, when the world celebrated International Women’s Day, they gave a token of appreciation to all women medical staff who risked their lives to contain the spread of COVID-19.
As part of a community-wide effort to support local medical professionals combat the COVID-19, the GFA donated boxes of N95 masks and hand sanitisers to the Guam Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile in Japan, players from the J.LEAGUE including Vissel Kobe’s captain and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta have mirrored the AFC’s highly successful #BreaktheChain campaign by producing a series of videos demonstrating steps on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while encouraging people to create football skill challenges.
