Chitwan Veterans and Abhishek Church Veterans have kicked off their campaign on a winning note in the second edition of the Nagaswati Veterans Cup National Knockout Football Tournament, commencing on Tuesday.
In the opening encounter at the Navajyoti Stadium situated in Hetauda-7 Nagaswati, Chitwan Veterans triumphed over Simra Veterans with a scoreline of 3-1.
Bhupendra Karki was the standout performer for Chitwan Veterans, netting two goals, while Ravindra Kumar Shrestha added another to their tally. The sole consolation goal for the defeated Simra Veterans came courtesy of Meghnath Adhikari. Bhupendra Karki of Chitwan Veterans earned the prestigious Man of the Match title for his stellar performance. This victory has propelled Chitwan into the quarterfinals.
Similarly, in the subsequent match, Abhishek Church Veterans emerged victorious over Birganj City Veterans in a nail-biting contest that culminated in a tiebreaker. The regulation time ended in a goalless draw, and Abhishek Church ultimately secured a 3-2 victory in the tiebreaker. Shankar Gopal Shrestha, the goalkeeper for Abhishek Church, received the Man of the Match accolade for his exceptional performance. This triumph has also earned Abhishek Church a spot in the quarterfinals.
Organized under the auspices of the Nagaswati Veterans Club in Hetauda-7, Nagaswati, the eventual champion of this inaugural competition will be awarded a substantial cash prize of 2 lakhs, in addition to the coveted title. The runner-up will not go empty-handed either, as they will receive a prize of 1 lakh. The grand finale of the tournament is slated for October 20th.
