AFC U20 Asian Cup Round 2 Qualifiers: Yet Another 5-0 Loss
Chinese Taipei kept their hopes of qualifying for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2024 alive with a 5-0 win over Nepal in their final Qualifiers Round 2 Group B tie on Saturday.
Knowing only a big win would do if they were to stand a chance of progressing, Chinese Taipei went in search of goals from the first blow of the referee's whistle.
Their determination paid off in the 10th minute with midfielder Liu Yu-Chiao giving them the lead.
Forward Lai Yu-Chi doubled their advantage eight minutes later and Chinese Taipei's hopes were further boosted by Shih Yi-Ching slotting in their third in the 37th minute.
Forward He Jia-Shiuan's double (41st, 45+1) secured Chinese Taipei a hefty lead going into the break.Nepal, however, produced a more steely performance in the second half and Chinese Taipei were unable to add to their haul.
Group A winners Australia, runners-up Vietnam and China PR have already confirmed three of the four spots available in the Qualifiers and they will join the three highest seeded sides from the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 - Japan, DPR Korea and Korea Republic – as well as host nation Uzbekistan in the March 3-16, 2024 Finals.
