Indian captain Sunil Chhetri needs no introduction. His grandparents and mother are from Nepal. His father's roots is linked to Nepal. He has his relatives in Buttabari, Jhapa, Kathmandu and Pokhara. He is special to all Nepalese football fans.
And he proudly says he feels great whenever he comes to Nepal. He feels home.
Speaking in the pre-match conference, Chhetri said he has a soft corner for Nepal.
“I will admit that I have a soft corner for Nepal. But, it ends the moment I step on the pitch. My mom is from Nepal and whatever sporting culture and discipline has been inculcated is all because of my mom,” he told the press in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
He also appreciated team Nepal ahead of two match friendly series.
“Nepal has always made it very difficult for us on the football pitch, and we are not expecting anything less. Playing Nepal at home and outside Nepal are two different things, and let’s not forget that they are the home team here,” Sunil stressed.
