With the global spotlight shining once again on Asia, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has sent his best wishes to hosts Qatar as well as the two Asian clubs – AFC Champions League 2020 winners Ulsan Hyundai from Korea Republic and reigning Qatar Stars League champions Al Duhail SC – ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020™, which will take place between February 4-11, 2021 in Doha.

Ulsan and Al Duhail will be hoping to continue the Continent’s proud track record in the FIFA Club World Cup with Japan’s Kashima Antlers and United Arab Emirates’ Al Ain finishing as runners-up at the 2016 and 2018 editions of the global showpiece.

AFC President Shaikh Salman said: “On behalf of the Asian football family, I would like to wish both Ulsan Hyundai and Al Duhail the very best of success in the FIFA Club World Cup.

“Both teams deserve their places among the world’s best and we are confident that they will take inspiration from the successes of the world-class Asian teams before them and make our Continent proud.”

The AFC President also paid tribute to the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), who will be hosting their second FIFA Club World Cup following the successful and safe staging of the AFC Champions League 2020 from September to December 2020, which was held in three FIFA World Cup 2022 grounds – the Al Janoub Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium and Education City Stadium.

The AFC President added: “The Qatar FA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy have proven their world-class hosting capabilities and the success of the AFC Champions League in 2020 exemplified their incredible organisational excellence and meticulous attention to detail under the most challenging of circumstances.

“In less than two years, Qatar will welcome the world of football and we have every confidence in their ability to stage the best-ever FIFA World Cup, one that will showcase the highest organisational standards as well as the warm and most generous hospitality.”

Ulsan Hyundai will kick-off the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020™ when they face CONCACAF champions Tigres UANL in the second round at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on February 4 at 17:00 (UTC+3).

Meanwhile, Qatar champions Al Duhail SC will host African champions Al Ahly SC at 20:30 (local time) on the same day at the Education City Stadium.

The winners of the Ulsan/Tigres-UANL showdown will face Copa Libertadores champions, Palmeiras in the semi-finals on February 7, while Al Duhail or Al Ahly will take on European champions FC Bayern Munich on February 8.
