Himalaya Baltimore orchestrated a remarkable event known as the Dashain Cup 2023 on the 14th and 15th of October, with a special emphasis on veteran players in Baltimore, USA.
To infuse a competitive edge, they allowed three players aged 30 and above in each squad, while the goalkeeper position had no age restrictions.
This tournament marked a historic first for Himalaya Baltimore United in Maryland, USA. Eight teams, including the organizing team, participated, with seven hailing from Maryland and one from Virginia. The competing teams included Himalaya Baltimore United FC, Baltimore Athletic Club, Everest FC, NASO Community USA, B&D Soccer Group, Far Western Football Club, Pasadena FC, and Nova Veterans.
Despite challenging conditions, including heavy rain on the first day and cold weather, the event was a resounding success. In the semi-finals, Baltimore Athletic Club defeated Everest FC, while Nova Veterans emerged victorious over NASO Community USA. The grand final saw Nova Veterans triumph with a 5-2 scoreline against Baltimore Athletic Club, clinching the trophy, a prize of $2500, and medals, while Baltimore Athletic Club received $1500, a trophy, and medals as runners-up. Certificates and medals were awarded to all the winning and runner-up players.
Recognizing outstanding performances, certificates and medals were presented to the best players in various categories, including Shishir Adhikari of Nova Veterans as the Best Player of the Tournament, Hardik Poudyal of Nova Veterans as the Best Keeper of the Tournament, and Alen Dhewaju of Baltimore Athletic Club as the Top Goal Scorer. The Fair Play Award went to Far Western Football Club, and the Man of the Match in the final game was Jackson Sunuwar of Nova Veterans. Additionally, the best players in both semi-final games received medals and certificates.
The final day of the tournament featured prominent guests from the local Nepalese community, including NRNA MD Chapter Adakshya Kul Prasad Gurung, Delegate Harry Bhandari, social activist Jitendra Gurung, Baltimore Association of Nepalese President Mr. Subodh Bilas Panta, CEO of Ghimire Homes and social activist Mr. Kris Ghimire, and President of Himalaya Baltimore United, Mr. Nabin Gurung. These esteemed guests assisted in the distribution of certificates and medals to the winners.
