South Asia Watch: India Sacks Coach Igor Stimac
India have parted ways with men’s national team head coach Igor Stimac, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced.
The AIFF, in a statement, said the decision was made following India’s disappointing campaign in the recently concluded Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™.
Aiming to qualify for the third round of the AFC Asian Qualifiers for the first time, India finished third in Group A behind Qatar and Kuwait, which also meant missing out on automatic qualification to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.
The Croatian took charge of India after the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, replacing Stephen Constantine.
