Honestly, it should have been 4-2. Horrendous back passes and poor goalkeeping have resulted in the massive score line but you have to make up - Nepal is on right path !
Nepal has to accept the 2-6 score line and should move on, taking so many positive notes.
Remember, this is a very, very young team. A team of an average age of 22. Playing against biggie with such novice squad is never an easy task but the way how young Gorkhalis played in the first half was outstanding. They scored two goals !
The mindset has changed. The approach has changed, which is good sign in the team. We just need to play against big teams to improve ourselves.
But what happened after 30 minutes?
Team Nepal started the game in an extremely professional manner. Though they conceded a sloppy goal through free kick, they leveled, and they took the lead. That shocked Iraq and the team bench. That was definitely an attacking approach taught by coach Abdullah Almutairi.
Then everything catapulted. May be the nerves. May be the lack of experience or may be the lack of proper coordination.
When juniors were proving their worth, seniors in the team couldn't lead the match by example. But this happens when you are playing together for the first time with so many young players.
Everybody should understand that Nepal doesn't target FIFA World Cup. Honestly, not even AFC Asian Cup. We still need some time to reach there. We can reach there but we should go step by step. Everybody should understand that our target is SAFF title. And the new coach Abdullah Almutairi keeps saying he is building the team for future, possibly for the SAFF championship.
So, let's wait patiently and let the coach do whatever he wants in making the team that can score goals and even win the match against Asian biggies, like Iraq in near future.
