1st Sunshine women's football championship got underway on Saturday in Mechinagar, Jhapa.

Hosts Sunshine ladies team defeated Jalthal ladies team 2-0 in the opening match.

Samjhana Lawati and Roma Bhujel scored apiece for the winners. Bhujel became the queen of the match. She received Rs 1,000 cash.

Earlier, Mechinagar mayor Bimal Acharya inaugurated the championship.

Kankai sporting academy will meet Parijat ladies football team on Sunday.

The championship has a winning purse of Rs 55,555 whereas runners up team will get Rs 30,000.
