Gorkha Boys Sports Club, Butwal has won the title of 7th Bhupu Sainik Cup Open Knockout Football Tournament. In the final held on Saturday, Gorkha Boys managed to win the title by defeating BP Smriti Bhairav Football Club, Nawalparasi 3-1.
Bikas Thapa, Afid Olawale and Fode Fofona scored goals for Gorkha Boys in the match at Jawai Khel Maidan located in Butwal-13, Belbas. Another foreign player, Fofana, scored the only goal for the defeated Bhairav.
The Gorkha boys who became the winners won a cash prize of Rs 2,01,111 along with the title, while the runner-up Bhairav was satisfied with a trophy, medal and certificate along with Rs 1,01,111.
Nishan Rana of Gorkha Boys became the best goalkeeper in the individual category. Florent Koara and Umesh Thapa of Gorkha Boys were also declared the best defender and midfielder respectively. The best forward Bhairavka Fofana Banda was declared the best player of the tournament, Gorkha Boys' Bikas Thapa.
The winners and runners-up were awarded by the Chief Guest of the closing program, Assistant Chief District Officer of Rupandehi Niranjivi Rana, Vice President of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Dirgh Bahadur KC (Kumar), President of the host club Gopiram Pun and others.
A total of 12 teams from Rupandehi, Palpa and Nawalparasi participated in the competition organized by Bhupu Sainik Zawai Sporting Club, Butwal-13, Belbas.
