Phulbari Boys, Butwal have made a great start in the Kanchan Cup Open Knockout Football Tournament organized by Himalaya Community Development Center, Kanchan Rural Municipality-4, Deobazar from Wednesday.
In the opening match at the organizing institution's playground at Kanchan-4, Deobazar, Phulbari defeated Kapilvastu-11 by 3-0. Saroj Chhetri scored two goals for Phulbari in the match and Ajit Gurung scored one more goal.
Phulbari's Saroj Chhetri, who scored two goals in the match, was also declared the man of the match. With this win, Phulbari has entered the quarterfinals. As part of the competition, the match on Thursday, Falgun 17, will be played between Kanchan-11 and Farsatikar Youth Club, Suddhodhan, the organizers informed.
Prior to that, the competition was jointly inaugurated by the vice chairman of Kanchan Rural Municipality Mausumi Pun Thapa, the chairman of the organizing committee Prakash Thapa and others. The winner of the competition, which will run until the 25th of February, will receive a cash prize of 250,000 and the runner-up will receive 150,000.
Prakash Thapa, chairman of the organizing committee, said that the support and cooperation of all the spectators is needed to successfully complete the tournament, which is patronized by Kanchan rural municipality office, Rupandehi.
