Nepal international duo; forward Darshan Gurung and midfielder Santosh Tamang have left Nepal to pursue their footballing future in Australia on Sunday evening. The two Nepal internationals will join the expanding list of Nepali footballers in Australia. Only recently, Aashish Lama and Suman Lama also left Nepal for new beginnings down under.

Darshan Gurung recently made history by becoming the first player in more than 40 years to score a goal for Nepal against Kuwait after scoring in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. Darshan, who made his debut for Nepal in the international friendly against Bangladesh in Dhaka two years ago, has been counted among the most promising players of the national football team. Darshan was also the captain of the A Division side New Road Team in the last season of A Divison League.

Similarly, Santosh Tamang, the Tribhuwan Army FC player was counted among the most technically gifted players in the Nepali footballing circuit right now. He is leaving having spent three years with the departmental side. He made his debut in March 2019 against Kuwait and has been a fairly regular member of the national squad.

Australia is becoming the favorite destination of Nepali players lately. Unfortunately, despite having a good rhythm and potential, seeing no future in Nepali football, Darshan and Santosh have chosen to go abroad as the best option. Similarly, Bimal Basnet, Jagjeet Shrestha, Heman Gurung and Alan Neupane are also in Australia.

With this trend of players leaving for Australia getting broader, it shouldn't come as a surprise if more players follow suit.
