AFC Acting President Zhang Jilong has condemned the bombing incident in the Iraqi city of Hilla on Tuesday that claimed the lives of nine young players and fans.
In a message to www.the-afc.com, Jilong said: “I am shocked to receive this news. It is a very sad incident and deserves our condemnation.”
According to information available from news sources, a minibus exploded near a field where two youth teams had just finished a game, and the dead and the injured were between the ages of 15 and 20.
“This is indeed a very sad day for Iraqi football. The players were in the best of their youth with dreams for the future. That they met a gory end during a game of football, a sport they loved, makes this all the more heart-rending,” added Jilong.
GoalNepal.com also condemned the incident saying it was totally a coward act.
