GoalNepal.com can confirm that AFC U-22 Group D Qualifiers, which was scheduled to start in Kathmandu from 2nd of June, is officially postponed.
AFC informed all the participating teams about the decision.
All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is yet to publish its official statement on the postponement but ANFA spokesperson, Lalit Krishna Shrestha informed GoalNepal.com that the chances of the postponement is high.
"We are determined to host the qualifiers in Nepal. The qualifiers may not start from 2nd of June but we are in talks with AFC for the fresh date before 23rd June", Shrestha told GoalNepal.com.
Jordan team, which was supposed to leave to Nepal from Amman on Wednesday, has also cancelled the flight.
Mr. Khalil Al-Salem General Secretary of the Jordan football association announced that the AFC will determine the date and venue for the playoffs in the coming days, and that the AFC resumed its contacts with the National Association of the teams participating in this group in order to solicit their opinion on hosting the qualifiers, noting that the qualifiers must take place no later than 23 of next June, which is the unified date for all seven qualifying groups.
The political turmoil in Nepal is expected to be the main reason behind the postponement.
