The Japan 2022 FIFA World Cup Bid Committee on Friday made an impressive presentation to the AFC Executive Committee Members here in AFC House.

The bid committee was led by Bid Chairman and also newly elected JFA President Junji Ogura, Japan 2022 Bid Committee Executive Director Yuuichiro Nakajima, and Chief Director Suminori Gokoh.

AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam, FIFA Vice-President and AFC Executive Committee member Dr Chung Mong-joon, Dato' Worawi Makudi, also a FIFA and AFC Executive Committee member, AFC Vice-Presidents Manilal Fernando and Zhang Jilong, among others, attended the presentation.

Four Asian nations – Australia, Japan, Korea Republic and Qatar - are bidding for the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosting rights.

Titled ‘208 Smiles’, Japan, co-hosts with the Korea Republic in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, aim to bring ‘A World Cup of Smiles’ back to their home soil after 20 years and also share the excitement and joy of the World Cup with all 208 FIFA countries and regions.

In his opening remarks, Ogura expressed his wish to see an Asian country, preferably Japan, hosting the World Cup again.

"The AFC President has made it clear that he will support Qatar. While I will surely vote for Japan, Dr Chung must be on his own country's side...but no matter what, what is most important for the Asian football family is seeing the World Cup back on Asian soil," he said.

"Even though we are competitors, it is always my dream to see one country from Asia hosting the World Cup again after 2002."

Bin Hammam was impressed with Japan's presentation.

"Japan's proposal is really eye-catching and it is a very constructive project.

"There are four countries from Asia who are bidding for the hosting rights and everyone should support each other.

"I would love to see the World Cup come back to Asia," he said. (AFC)
