GoalNepal.com - AFC Challenge cup Qualifiers: Nepal Hammers Northern Mariana Island

Nepal registered second biggest win in an international football as Nepal hammered minnows Northern Mariana Island 6-0 in the AFC Challenge Cup group D qualifiers played at Dasrath Stadium on Saturday.

It was back in 1999 when Nepal had registered its biggest win (7-0) against Bhutan.

Bharat Khawas scored a hat trick while Santosh Sahukhala, Raju Tamang and Sandip Rai scored apiece to ensure an easy win for Gorkahlis.

When Northern Mariana Island was trying to settle down on the pitch, Nepal Army striker Bharat Khawas sent the Nepalese football fans on cloud nine in the very 3rd minute.

Jagjeet Shrestha nicely crossed the ball from the left flank, Santosh Sahukhala dodged NMI stopper in the course that beat all defenders and Bharat Khawas found the ball unmarked, who slammed the ball home with his perfect header to open the firing.

Nepal dominated the field after scoring the first goal but they had to wait 28 more minutes to double the tally.

jagjeet Shrestha looked awesome in the park as he supplied yet another juicy cross which was excellently headed home by Santosh Sahukhala, who scored his goal almost after two years.

Sahukhala had last scored in the friendly match against Cambodia in 2011.

Bharat Khawas extended the lead in 41st minute utilizing a pin point cross off Rabin Shrestha from left flank.

It was unstoppable Nepal who made 4-0 in 60th minute when Nepal earned a spot kick after Jagjeet Shrestha was fouled inside the box.

Raju Tamang stepped in and placed the ball cooly inside the box.

Sandip Rai, who played as a defensive midfielder, made it 5-0 in 68th minute before hero of the match Bharat Khawas completed the rout in 72nd minute.

The win came as a relief to new coaches, Jack Stefanowski and Richard Orlowski who started the helm with a disastrous Pakistan defeat.

Six goals galore has also given some joy to Nepalese football fans who have been demanding goals from Nepal National team since long time.
